PGMA asks Hanjin to hire from pool of Filipino welders
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo asked Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction Corporation (HHICC) to hire more Filipino welders after officials of the South Korean shipbuilder called on the Chief Executive in Malacañang.
HHICC officials led by its president Jeong Sup Shim paid a courtesy call on the President to announce its additional $2-billion investment to build a shipyard complex in Mindanao soon.
Prior to this, the President told a gathering of officials and residents of Barangay 20, District 1 of Isla Puting Bato in Tondo, Manila, with whom she had an informal interaction, that she would “put in a good word” for the residents who would undergo and pass the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority’s (TESDA) Training for Work Scholarship on welding.
Residents of the said barangay are the new recipients of 125 TESDA Training for Work scholarship vouchers, 50 of which are for welders.
The President welcomed the new Korean investment that is expected to generate 30,000 new jobs
